The New Zealand Holiday
After a much awaited trip to my homeland I can now say it was the best holiday ever!
Rob had packed me off with a Redington travel rod (9ft), Vision reel and Rio Gold line (6 weight) ... the intention was to do lots of fishing but family time took over. However my brother Marcus Pinney had a bit of time off (he runs 'Wilderness Trophy Hunting' on the West Coast, taking keen hunters into the wonderful Southern Alps www.wildernesstrophyhuntingco.nz ) so he so kindly gave my daughter and I a magical few days fishing by jetboat, something I hadn't done before. We ended up with a bag of three, the highlight being a 4lb seatrout at the mouth of the Whataroa River (in the photo).
I also stayed up at Lake Clearwater (head of the Ashburton River) which holds NZ brown trout - it was late in the season so we sadly only caught perch. It is the most beautiful spot though - we ascended Mt Guy (1319m) and soaked up the mountainous vistas, happiness!
Next time there will be more fishing time...
